The conspiracy attempts to contain the awakening by transforming it into marketable content. Emma, Sarah, and Mairead emerge from the ritual moment transformed but realistic about the system's absorption capacity: rebellion itself has become a product.

There might be a way out, but it isn't in ritual or psychology. It's monstrous and mechanical. To break the trap, passengers have to risk absolutely everything.

Both the conspirators and the Holdfasts reveal themselves. The staff's all connected to the monstrous in some way. The current underneath the whole voyage is just, "what kind of monsters can you tolerate?"
