After After is a big evolution in Deep Dream State, and just a big evolution.

At the end of S4, Naia is firmly in control of Vale Four 's assets and IP. What started as a lovers' quarrel between June and Z ends with humanity's fate subject to one decisionmaker. Her declared decision opens the season.

Humanity is over.

That isn't doomsaying or villainy. It's a statement of fact - maybe even an optimistic one. Saying it out loud is the first step to somewhere else. "Somewhere else" might be a collective happily ever after.

Seasons 1-4 of Deep Dream State tend toward the bleak. Season Five doesn't. Each story set is a romance. There's chemistry, stakes, and romantic resolution on the species level.

The show is still very much about desire. Whether queer posthuman kinds of desire are horror or HEA is up to you.

Different post/extra/superhuman entities populate the first four seasons. After After puts names to those entities, and then you vote. The season's written, but the last chapter choice depends on you.
